Thank you! I have continued trying to remove as much refined sugar as possible, and I’m noticing more of a difference.

It’s super interesting to see, especially since I’ve never really had any type of diet. I’m not a sweets person, which has helped tremendously in terms of being a healthier person. I really liked the video you added! I’ve never heard your voice before, so it was a nice added bonus to the post. While I don’t think I would cut off sugars from my diet, I really liked seeing how it has affected you 🙂 xx

You’re lucky you’re not a sweets person! I’ve always had major sugar cravings, even though I don’t actually like sweets themselves. Or fizzy drinks.
The voice is not how I sound lol. For some reason my voice goes really slow and higher pitched when I’m nervous. But I will try to do more video content and get use to it. You are so natural on video! Like your personality comes through. xxx

lmfaoo, thank you! I thought I was so terrible, but a few people on twitter have told me to keep going because they looked forward to my videos!
Have you thought about starting a youtube channel??

  2. Mrs.S LDN says

Well done on your first video, it was super cute!! Was not expecting your accent to sound like that either but its lovely!!!
Congrats on cutting down, I can only imagine how hard it is!! Please continue to keep us posted I’m loving it!! xx

    • LauraJ says

Haha when I’m nervous, for some reason my accent comes out American! I’m like Ross in Friends when he started talking British.
Thank you though! It’s just weird filming in that selfie mode. I need to get someone to actually film.
And I will do an update soon. I think after giving up my one true love of cheese, everything else seems easier. xx

      • Mrs.S LDN says

I know that feeling, the amount of people who think an Irish accent is American is scary!! I didnt think that myself though, just thought it was lovely 🙂
Having someone with you may make you that much more comfy and confident, it wouldnt hurt to try!

REALLY enjoyed this post, very informative and helpful. Would love to give this a go as the benefits sound brilliant. Can’t believe the PMS one, I’ve not heaed it before but it’s something I struggle with xx

    • LauraJ says

Yeah I was really surprised at the difference it had on my PMS symptoms. A facialist once told me that if you can cut back on sugar for two weeks beforehand, that’s enough to make a difference.
I say take baby steps and look for the healthier alternatives at first. Like a couple of medjool dates stopped me from eating a lot of unnecessary sugar. xx

        • LauraJ says

I’ve not actually thought about that. Medjool dates have always been super sweet to me, and I much prefer them to raisins or regular dates. But fresh fruit can’t compare to refined sugar, which is why I put choc shot (fruit version of nutella), and use vanilla essence etc to add sweetness on my porridge etc. xx

Really informative post! I cut sugar out of my diet about a year ago to see if it would help my acne and I found the results super underwhelming to be honest. It wasn’t really worth the hassle, I just try to be more mindful of eating less sugar xx

I was expecting my skin to be the biggest change. Like it’s made a difference, but I wouldn’t say to someone – cut sugar and it will change your complexion!
I think I’m just realising that I don’t need to eat refined sugar or even sugar itself all the time. It use to be such a staple in my diet despite eating a lot of plant based food. xx

    • LauraJ says

Thank you! I’m glad it’s motivating. And it really is! I had no idea how addicted I was until I started to cut back

    • LauraJ says

Thank you Megala! It’s tough to do but I think even tiny changes can make an impact over time. 🙂

What a great job on the video and an amazing and informative post! I have PCOS so I also have noticed a huge difference if I over due on sugar that month or not with flow and pain. Your skin should get better, it is detoxing, and will have an adjustment period, but once it gets use to the no sugar it should be a lot better. Good luck! <3

    • LauraJ says

I was so nervous doing the video! Not sure I’m ready for YouTube yet lol. Fingers crossed! Up close there is a lot of tiny spots that if I stand outside, are really visible. x

      • K.M. Sutton says

I totally understand that, but girl you were amazing! And I think you are definitely ready for Youtube. I have only just gotten comfortable being in front of a picture camera. I could not imagine doing a video. You are a rockstar! <3

        • LauraJ says

What’s crazy though is that when I’m nervous I sound American! That’s not even my accent haha! I need to make another video where I sound English. I’m surprised you have just got comfortable in front of a camera because you look like a natural! x

I’m pretty health conscious right now but I used to drink a lot of soda like 10 years ago and eat a lot of sugar. I’ve cut down on so much sugar for the past 5 years and def made a huge difference. Sugar is really bad for you, causing serious health conditions such as diabetes, etc. I’m so glad that you made this change and posted this useful info on your blog! 🙂

    • LauraJ says

I was terrible on sugar years back. Because I started eating healthy food, I think I convinced myself that my sugar intake was fine. But I’m now realising that it was still bad. It’s just so addictive. x

  7. It Girl says

I’m very bad with sugar. I go through phases where I binge on anything that has sugar for a week or two, then I stop, but I get into it again! What exactly have you removed from your diet that you were eating on the regular?

    • LauraJ says

Sugar has always been my weak spot. And it’s just in every single thing. I’ve been trying to put together a list of easy meals I can make from scratch to stop myself having processed food.

  8. Infinite Living says

It takes so much dedication to make such dietary changes. I think my process with that has brought me a lot of alertness and clarity in addition to other benefits as we become so aware of all our food choices. You are doing an awesome job, your photographs are beautiful and love your honest sharing as always. That video is very well done 🙂

  9. thelonelyauthorblog says

Very interesting post. I need to cut out my sugar intake as well. I was surprised to find their may be a change in sleep. Also, the video was the perfect addition to the post. Well done my friend.

    • LauraJ says

Thank you! Baby steps can help. I didn’t even think about sleep at first, but I have realised that my sleep must be better because I’m waking up earlier and more alert.

I would love to read your thoughts!
